About Me

janice-headshot1

I am an experienced journalist who spent more than two decades in the daily news business, writing for newspapers and news agencies in Central, Eastern, and Western Canada. Most recently, I was a longtime national justice reporter for Postmedia News, before leaving in 2011 to pursue my dream of teaching journalism. After spending two years at Concordia University in Montreal, I moved this year to Carleton University in Ottawa. I have discovered that working with students is even more exhilarating than daily reporting.

On this site, you will find my blog. Some of the entries are re-postings of Education Matters, a column I write for j-source.ca

I am also a board member of the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom.
